I'm dealing with Grandpa Simpson
I'm working on a contract right now, and the width of a parcel of land is described as "1 Rod." A goddamned Rod!
Can we not say 16.5 feet? Better yet, can we not round up to 17 feet?
I feel like I'm dealing with Grandpa Simpson or Mr. Burns.

And why do the Brits cling to "stone" as a measure of weight

Just out of curiosity, I checked out WP on the matter of English Units: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/English_units
There's some really funky stuff out there. I had no idea where US/UK shoe sizes came from: based on the barleycorn, counting backward from 13. Crazy stuff.
I think the Brits do more weird things than we give them credit for.
It was only the 1960s when they phased out fractional currency (shillings, etc).
